Yaakin Bidi – Song Writing Residency

Listen to our friend Kobi Morrison from Madjitil Moorna in this video about the Song Writing Residency completed in 2020 with our Pre-Primary students about the Turtles of Galup (Lake Monger).
With the guidance of Elder, Mr Neville Collard, The Yaakin Bidi was created by the Magic Shadow Groovers (Pre-Primary 2020), along with Kobi Morrison, Sara Terry and Cezera Critti-Schnaars as well as the Koorlong team. This project stemmed from a year long look, love and study of the South-western snake-necked turtle a native to Galup (Lake Monger) by the Magic Shadow Groovers (Pre-Primary students 2020). This creative group of students felt a deep sense of connection to this special reptile, witnessing a birth during the year on the boundaries to our school.

Proceeds go to the Koorlong team to assist them in continuing their fantastic work in connecting children to Noongar language and culture.

The CD produced from this project can be purchased here

“One of the things that has been wonderful about the Bold Park Community School is its opportunity to respond to the needs that are specific to the child ... it is reassuring when a school can deliver at a pace and style that is respectful of the individual's differences and needs AND to demonstrate the relevance of curriculum issues into the application for real life and living.”
