Regeneration Project
Posted 07 Jun 2019 in From The Students Our Stories
A project to regenerate an area of the Wildspace lead the Waste Warriors to visit Zanthorrea Garden Centre in search of plant species native to the Herdsman Lake area.

They discovered four reasons why we should all grow native and local plants:
- Low maintenance. The plants have evolved for this area and climate and do not require a lot of watering.
- Protection and food for native animals. Grevillea and Banksia are examples of flowers which provide nectar to birds and possum, especially in winter when there are no insects around.
- Sense of place and conservation.
- Uniqueness.

A treasure hunt around the nursey encouraged the students to carefully notice the diverse plants, sculptures and wildlife.
Permaculture students in Middle School and College have been busy preparing the site to reintroduce local native plants and help create a haven for local birds and wildlife. The Waste Warriors are very motivated to help build this new project, to create a sustainable space and help keep our local natives and wildlife thriving into the future.
