Danielle Joynt

After completing her Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance in Canberra and Graduate Diploma in Musicianship from the Kodaly Institute in Hungary, Danielle lectured in Early Childhood Music at the Australian National University before founding the Young Conservatorium program at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music. In 1998, she set up Cottage School of Music Junior in Perth, where she still teaches. She is the author of Beautiful Children’s Rhymes, Rhyme Baby and the soon-to-be-released MusicChild and sings, narrates and composes for the classical music ensemble Music Book.

Danielle is currently working with the New Zealand poet Sarah Elwell, setting Sarah’s poetry to music in their project The Dreaming Tales of Tam Ys and with archetypal therapist Katie Eden Todd, composing music for the Persona Grata stories for children. Danielle is a passionate advocate of play-based and experiential learning for children from birth. Her other passion is Ishta yoga, which informs her life and work.

“Stand aside for a while and leave room for learning, observe carefully what children do, and then, if you have understood well, perhaps teaching will be different from before.

Creativity becomes more visible when adults try to be more attentive to the cognitive processes of children than to the results they achieve in various fields of doing and understanding.”
